On the Road to Success

Reading City Football Club is delighted to announce a new collaborative community partnership with Reading Buses.

Our loveable and friendly mascot Lawsey the Lion in the driver’s seat during our partnership launch.

By working with Reading Buses, we will be able to reach more of the local community as information relating to Reading City Football Club will soon appear on their on-board advertising displays but will also be meeting our commitment to help protect the planet so that it can be enjoyed by future generations by promoting the benefits of travelling by bus.

Travelling by bus is a much more sustainable option than using the car, especially in Reading as our new partner have one of the youngest and most environmentally friendly fleets in the UK making it the quieter, cleaner and greener way to travel.

Here at the Rivermoor we are lucky to be served by the sky blue 16 and purple 17 routes operating regularly from the Oxford Road which is just a short walk away.

Reading City Football Club’s Marketing, Communications, Engagement Manager, Ryan Sheehan with Jake Osman, Marketing Manager for Reading Buses as we launch our new collaborative community partnership.

Our Marketing, Communications, Engagement Manager, Ryan Sheehan had this to say:

“We are delighted to be working with Reading Buses, they are a local institution who have proudly served our community for over a hundred years. With a fleet of 194 buses delivering 66,000 passengers each day across the Reading and the Thames Valley, we are very grateful to our partner who are giving us the opportunity to reach members of the community who might not know that Reading City Football Club exists, through the use of their onboard advertising displays and are looking forward to seeing what opportunities it brings our way.

As a regular bus user myself I would urge anyone travelling to the Rivermoor to consider using the bus as it’s affordable, comfortable, hassle-free and services are reliable. Not to mention the environmental benefits as Reading Buses operate an environmentally friendly fleet”.

Jake Osman, Marketing Manager for Reading Buses said;

“It’s great to be able to forge links with grassroots teams such as Reading City FC. We have always felt part of the community we serve and being able to partner with organisations such as this, we are able to demonstrate exactly why that is! We hope that this is the start of a long-standing partnership and that it helps to a rise in supporters for the club and who know where it might lead – maybe to become a rivalry against another certain club in the town… Good luck to all at Reading City Football Club!”

About Reading Buses

You may be familiar with our brightly coloured buses, but you may not be aware of our history and our success story.

We’re proud to have been transporting customers in and around Reading for over 120 years. Yes, there’s a lot of history but we’re committed to giving you a quality bus service with a strong focus on customer service and innovation. Along with our owners, Reading Borough Council (RBC), we’re successfully reducing car dependency for access to the area, both for visitors and residents.

It is this approach which has made us a success story. Our fleet of 147 buses is very environmentally-friendly and includes 60 gas buses, and most of our diesel fleet meets or has been upgraded to meet Euro VI standards, so we’re dramatically improving the air quality for all Reading’s people too. With free WiFi & many USB charging points available on our buses we are making sure our customers can stay connected too!

In recent years we have expanded our operations across Berkshire and have two sister bus companies called Newbury & District and Thames Valley Buses who run a further 29 and 47 buses and coaches respectively. Our Thames Valley Bodyworks & ATF company also offers third party vehicle body repairs and bus & lorry MoT testing.

About Reading City Football Club:

Reading City Football Club, commonly known as The Cityzens are a non-profitable, grassroots community-based football club based at the Rivermoor Stadium, located in Scours Lane, Tilehurst, Reading and are proudly affiliated to the Berkshire & Buckinghamshire Football Association and an England Football Accredited Club.

Our formation came as part of Highmoor AFC's 50-year celebration in 2018.

Club secretary, Chris Gallimore took over the role in 1990 and recruited, the now chairman, Martin Law, to become first team manager in 1992 and between them assembled a strong squad of players and success was to follow. The club thrived, with regular promotions, league and cup doubles, being the first club to win the current Thames Valley Premier League unbeaten. The reserves are still the only reserve side to win the same Reading Step 7 League. After winning the league promotion to the Uhlsport Hellenic League in 2012 meant moving and playing at Palmer Park, the current location here at The Rivermoor was secured in 2018 and after 50 years it was decided to change the name to Reading City. This decision was not taken lightly however the community of Reading has yearned for a semi-professional club behind Reading Football Club to represent Reading and give local players the opportunity to play for a Reading based team as Reading.

The pathway for the club begins with the Sunday morning development centre for 4–6-year olds through to our First Team. This pathway will become the life blood of the club, over the coming years.
