Cityzens receive game changing support from Howdens.

Reading City Football Club is delighted to announce that we have been successful in our application for a brand-new kitchen as part of The Howdens Game Changer Programme in conjunction with England Football.

The Howdens’ Game Changer programme was launched in April to improve clubhouse facilities at grassroots football clubs across the UK and is set to deliver more than 450 kitchens to clubs over a three-year period, and after a successful application process our Clubhouse, known as the Crossbar Sports Bar & Kitchen will receive this game changing support.

In 2018, the Rivermoor Stadium was awarded ‘’Best Ground” at Football in Berkshire’s Annual End of Season Awards and ever since we have continued to improve our facilities.

Our ongoing facilities improvement programme is led by our Club Treasurer and Facilities Manager, Victoria Pyke and here’s what she had to say on the announcement that we were successful in our application:

“As a club we are thrilled to have been selected to be part of the Howdens Game Changer programme, and to be receiving a new kitchen in our clubhouse. A big thank you must go to our Chairman Martin Law for his hard work in measuring up, etc to prepare for the new kitchen.

The Rivermoor isn’t just the proud home of Reading City Football Club it’s also the hub of Reading’s football community playing host to our Sister Club Tilehurst Panthers, along with Woodley United and various other charity and community cup finals throughout the football season. Therefore, having this new kitchen will mean that the clubhouse can continue to serve the whole community for many more years to come.

We can’t wait to unveil our new kitchen to everyone connected to Reading City Football Club, from our junior players to parents and supporters and to our volunteers who give up their time each week to support us.  It really is great to see the impact that the Game Changer programme is having on grass roots football first-hand.”

A spokesperson for Howdens had this to say:

“We’re incredibly proud to be supplying a kitchen to Reading City Football Club. The community that we operate in is very important to us.  We know that kitchens are the heart of our homes and believe that they should be the heart of our local communities too. There is a lot of attention on grassroots football and what happens on the pitch, but off-pitch facilities are just as important. Clubhouses are often the hub of the community, where teas and coffees keep parents warm on rainy weekends, where the frozen wet feet of the army of volunteers dry off and when the post-match discussion begins.”

The Howdens Game Changer programme was launched by football legends Jill Scott, MBE and Chris Kamara, MBE who lent their support by driving home the importance of grassroots football and clubhouse facilities on their own careers.
