Cityzens put best foot forward.

Almost two weeks ago, Beat the Street was launched in West Reading turning Norcot, Southcote, Coley, Battle and parts of Abbey & Tilehurst wards into a giant game until 1st November 2023 to encourage people to get their dose of nature and boost their health as they walk, cycle and wheel around the area and we can exclusively reveal a new Beat Box location at the Rivermoor Stadium.

Whilst we are very proud to sit at the very heart of the local community here in Reading, earlier this summer we recognised that we could do more and as part our new club values we now strive to be recognised not just as a football club but a force for good within the immediate community and beyond, providing opportunities for participation in a range of sporting, social and cultural activities in the hope that these will lead to health and wellbeing benefits and have been supporting Beat the Street since August, where we’ve helped to promote the initiative on social media and in our matchday programme as well as displaying leaflets in our clubhouse and distributing them amongst our players in our Youth Academy made up over twenty youth teams to try and get as many people as possible to join in.

We also launched our own Beat the Street team as part of the initiative in a bid to encourage as many people as possible to take part. Anyone who joins ‘The Pride of Reading’ on Beat the Street will be in with a chance of winning free match tickets amongst other amazing prizes.

The new Beat Box is located on the gates to the Rivermoor Stadium, here in Scours Lane, Tilehurst, Reading. As soon as you come under the Railway Bridge there is set of blue gates straight ahead with the Beat the Street box attached.

Ryan Sheehan, Our, Marketing, Communications & Engagement Manager had this to say:

“We really appreciate Beat the Street installing a Box on Scours Lane, as we continue to work together to benefit the local community of West Reading. Putting a Beat Box on Scours Lane was a no-brainer for me as the initiative encourages people to get their dose of nature and we’re right next to the Thames Path which takes you along the River Thames. Not only that but by encouraging more footfall on Scours Lane more people will learn where Reading City are based and hopefully choose to start following their community club.

If you haven’t already started playing Beat the Street, it’s never too late to start and we’d love if you joined our official team ‘The Pride of Reading’ when signing up”.

 What is Beat the Street?

Beat the Street is a free, fun challenge where schools, businesses and community groups across West Reading are competing to see who can walk, run, or wheel the furthest in six weeks.

Beat the Street is now running, having started on September 20th and will finish on November 1st 2023.

How does it work?

Sensors called Beat Boxes will be placed on lampposts and street furniture across West Reading.

Players use the map to find the Boxes and tap them using a card to track your journey and earn points for your team. Children will use cards issued through their school.

At the end of the 6 weeks, winning teams will receive vouchers.

How to register?
