Youth Round Up

Our Weekly Instalment looking at how our Youth Academy got on, we look back at the weekend of Saturday 23rd and 24th September 2023 where for a third week in a row we had a number of fantastic performances.

Kicking the weekend off was action from the Berkshire Youth Development League.

Our Under 8 Hoops enjoyed themselves & scored some good goals when they took on Caversham AFC U8 Sharks.

Our Under 8 Lions which is the newest team to represent the Pride of Reading had lots of fun and scored some great goals in their game against Wargrave Wolves U8 Whites.

Our Under 9 Athletic faced Whiteknights FC U9 Wizards and had fun with some good goals scored.

To the East Berkshire Football Alliance now…

Our Under 10s faced Binfield U10 Pumas away from home.

Our Under 11s travelled to Twyford Comets U11s and put in a positive performance as they continue to enjoy a good start to their season.

Our Under 12s welcomed EPC Development Club U12 Reds to Reading and suffered their first defeat of the season with a narrow loss of 1-2.

Our Under 12s United welcomed Eversley & California Youth U12 Vipers to Reading and lost 4-0 today. Manager Mark Emery told us “We’re all disappointed after two wins, but we weren’t at our best. Onwards and upwards and start again next week”.

Our Under 14s welcomed Ascot United U14 Saints to Reading and lost 1-3.

Our Under 16s travelled to Bisham Abbey where they played on what manager Dave Mills described as a “carpet of a pitch” against FAB U16 Blues and won 3-1 with Goodwin earning a brace and Gmiterek also getting on the scoresheet.   

Our Under 16 Royals welcomed Ascot United Raiders to Reading and won 2-1. Manager Paul Bellanti told us “It was a very close game, with some great battling by our boys”.

Our Under 16s Athletic travelled to Laurel Park U16 Hurricanes where our youngsters blew the opposition away with an 8-0 win to maintain their perfect start to the season by remaining unbeaten.

To Sunday now…

Kicking Sunday off was action from the Reading & West Berkshire League, and are our Under 9s Royals welcomes AFC Newbury Boys and Girls U9 Whites to Reading. It was great to see our youngsters having fun as they become accustomed with playing 7 A-Side this season.

Our Under 10 Royals welcomed Down Grange Youth U10 Rangers in the Peter Houseman Youth League to Reading and will be happy with their continued good start to the season. Our youngsters had lots of fun and scored some cracking goals.

Our Under 12 Athletic side travelled to Aldermaston United and won 0-11. Some amazing football played by our youngsters.

Our Under 12 Royals travelled to Goring Robins U12 Reds in the Oxfordshire Youth League and drew 4-4. After a tough start to the season it’s a good result.  

Our Under 13 Athletic side welcomed Abingdon Youth U13 Green to Reading in the Oxfordshire Youth Football League and won 5-4. Manager Jethro Johnstone told us “We were 3-0 up and flying, only to then concede two penalties which let them back into the game. Full credit to the boys who dug deep to nick it at the end after Abingdon came back level twice. A great show of resilience”.

Wrapping the weekend up our Under 16s United travelled to Loddon Sports Youth U16 XVI in the Reading & West Berkshire League where they suffered a third consecutive defeat as they continue to endure a tough start to their season, final score was 7-2.
