Reading City Football Club is proud that our home, the Rivermoor, has been chosen as the venue for Basingstoke Town's Emirates FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round clash with Bournemouth FC.
All summer long we've been busy making improvements to our facilities here at the Rivermoor to ensure they are as great as they can be for those who visit us. It's therefore a huge compliment to all those who have worked hard behind the scenes, most notably our treasurer and facilities manager Victoria Pyke who has been coordinating our ground improvement project, when a team higher up the football pyramid chooses to use our ground for their fixture.
Near-neighbours Basingstoke Town who we already have a close working relationship with approached us, as they were in need of a venue for their Emirates FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round clash against Bournemouth FC due to their previously hired ground at Winchester City FC being unavailable due to pitch renovations and with ongoing building works in the early stages of September, their new home Winklebury isn't yet up to scratch.
We were happy to help a local club out as our location is ideal for the traveling Dragons.
By train, it takes just over 20 minutes from Basingstoke to Reading West with departures running every 25 minutes. Once you've arrived Reading West station is just under a mile and a half walk from the ground at Scours Lane with plenty of buses that run along Oxford Road.
