Cityzens enter lockdown on a positive note
Following Saturday’s narrow 0-1 Defeat to Lancing in the First Round Proper of the FA Vase, the Cityzens returned to cup action on Tuesday night. This time they faced Long Crendon away from home in the Second Round of the Uhlsport Hellenic League Bluefin Sports Challenge Cup.
Going into the game Simon Johnson was hoping that his side would get a good result so that we can go into lockdown on a positive note.
It might have been a cold night in Oxfordshire but out on the pitch, we saw things hotting up.
City took the lead early in the game as Tyler Cruz found the opening goal with 15 minutes on the clock.
At half time, the Cityzens their hosts 0-1.
The Cityzens turned up the pressure in the second half and scored another four goals, the first of which was scored by Will Okine-Peters with 70 minutes on the clock.
Only six minutes later the Cityzens found the back of the net again as Ben Lambourne making only his second appearance for the first team found our third goal of the evening.
Nathan Jones then got in on the scoring act and scored his first goal of the evening with 85 minutes on the clock, only five minutes later he would get his second to earn a brace and extend the Cityzens lead.
As we entered stoppage time it looked certain that we would earn a clean sheet but with 92 minutes on the clock. Long Crendon earned themselves a consolation goal as Warwick raced through and dinked it past the keeper in the last kick of the game.
Simon Johnson said after the game:
“Nice to have a free-scoring performance to end it on. Who knows when we’ll be back, but we’ll certainly in a better position than we were before the last lockdown. Whenever we restart, we’ll be ready”.
