Cityzens edge Leatherhead in tight friendly win

Goals from Jordan Alves and Tyler D'Cruz overturn a Leatherhead equaliser to secure a valuable pre-season victory at the Rivermoor.

It was a fast start from both sides, but it was the hosts who managed to get their foot on the ball and create the first opening.

With just ten minutes on the clock the ball fell to Jordan Alves just inside the box, and following a neat first touch, managed to rifle the ball into the back of the net for an early lead.

Even following the early goal the game remained fast-paced and chances were created at both ends of the pitch, but the defences came out on top as the rest of the half was goalless.

Matching the intensity of the first half, the visitors equalised just five minutes into the second 45 with a bullet header from Will Seager.

The game continued to ebb and flow but with just ten minutes remaining D'Cruz managed to power a header of his own past the stranded goalkeeper to win the game for Simon Johnson's men.

Having built some momentum over pre-season, with just one defeat in four, attention now turns to the next game against North Leigh at Rivermoor on Saturday.
