A point apiece in Gloucestershire

The Citizens travelled to Tuffley Rovers yesterday in the hope of securing another three points in the Hellenic League Premier Division after their 3-0 win against Holmer Green earlier in the week. Playing in difficult conditions wasn't easy and The Citizens came away with a point.

There wasn't much to report on in the half. In the twenty first minute Luis Le Pais curls a hopeful effort wide of Luke Merchant's far post, then right before half time City had a chance to get the opener again after Merchant was left rooted to the spot as Macaulay Herbert deflected a shot from Tyreece Weekes on to the upright.

The Citizens started the second half brightly as they earned a penalty in the forty seventh minute, it was calmly converted by Dan Davies to put us 0-1 up. Ten minutes later we nearly found our second as Jerry Foumboua forced Merchant to make a good stop with his feat after getting free on the left hand side.

On the hour mark the Citizens thought they had found their second goal of the afternoon after Captain Ellis Cowd headed the ball past Merchant, unfortunately it was ruled offside.

Sixty five minutes in the Citizens finally found the equaliser, Merchant took too long clear his lines and was charged down by Fergus Burton, the ball then cannoned off of Burton before ending up in the back of the net.

In the seventy eighth minute our hosts Tuffley would find their first goal of the afternoon as Pritchett drilled a free kick past Charlie York following a foul on Dom Kent on the edge of the box, two minutes later as we went into the last ten minutes, Tuffley would complete their comeback after Bloomfield’s neat cross from the right was turned into the net by Shutt.

With ten minutes left both teams continued to battle to the end and although it may be a difficult result for us to stomach after being two goals up, but full credit goes to our hosts for fighting back. A point was well deserved for both teams on a cold and damp afternoon.

Simon Johnson, First Team Manager had this to say following his side's draw:

"Considering everything we faced today a draw is a very good result at a club that is never easy to go to and come away with anything".
