Reading City Football Club is delighted to announce that Simon Johnson has made some additions to his backroom staff as he prepares his side for another season in the Combined Counties Football League Premier Division North.

After a terrific first season at the club managing with our Under 23s, First Team Manager and Reading City Football Club Head Coach Simon Johnson has rewarded the hard work of our Under 23s Manager Kieran Jennings and Under 23s Assistant Jamie Williams with an offer of joining his backroom team which they accepted.

Prior to joining the Cityzens last summer, Kieran had previously worked with AFC Aldermaston and Wallingford Town whilst Jamie had previously managed our sister club, Woodley United before joining the Cityzens last summer, therefore both have a lot of knowledge and experience to bring to Simon Johnson's team.

We spoke to Kieran and Jamie about stepping up from the Under 23s to the First Team and here's what they had to say.

"I had a really good year working with the younger players, making their first steps in men's football. But I'm really looking forward to working as part of the first team management team to help the club fulfil its ambitions for the next season".

"It was brilliant to be asked to join the team. I couldn't think of any reason not to. Reading City is an ambitious club that I wanted to stay a part of. I really enjoyed working with Kieran this season and now can't wait to get going with Butch (Michael Butcher, Assistant Manager) and Simon".

We also spoke to First Team Manager Simon Johnson following the addition of Kieran and Jamie to his backroom staff, here's what the gaffer had to say:

"I'm absolutely buzzing to have these two gentlemen joining the first team management team. They both have managerial experience themselves, so it was a no brainer to ask them the question. They did a fantastic job with a very young U23's group last season, and as a club we like to promote from within. Myself, Butch (Michael Butcher) and Dave (Dave Wyeth) did okay last year as a management team, but with Butch having to play a lot last year it left a lot of work to do. So, we decided we needed to expand the management team, especially having seen the size of others within the league! Kieran and Jamie will both bring a lot to the table on a match day, training day and behind the scenes. Welcome gents, I look forward to working with you".
